FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 & SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16

The Anaheim Mexican-Fusion Restaurant Will Offer Mariachi Performances

& Randomly Surprise Guests with Envelopes of Freebies & Cash

Anaheim’s colorful Day of the Dead-themed Mexican restaurant, Calaca Mamas Cantina, will celebrate Mexican Independence Day (Saturday, Sept 16th) with a two-day celebration full of traditional music, extravagant dishes, and giveaways galore from Friday, September 15th at 5 p.m. through Saturday, September 16th. The family-owned eatery invites guests to celebrate the holiday by dining alongside authentic Mexican performances and take part in mystery envelope offers for the chance to win exclusive prizes.

Mexican Independence Day celebrates Mexico's declaration of independence from Spain in 1810, and the festivities commence each year on the evening of the 15th, honoring the brave Catholic priest who called the town by way of ringing a bell and a delivered a speech known as the Grito de Dolores, demanding the end of Spanish rule. The holiday now represents the pride, determination, and courage of the people who fought to earn Mexico’s independence. To celebrate the holiday in the traditional manner, Calaca Mamas Cantina plans to begin their Mexican Independence Day festivities on Friday, September 15th as a tribute to the Shout of Dolores.

Beginning at 5 pm on Friday, and all day Saturday, fifty select diners at Calaca Mamas Cantina will be given a purple envelope containing a mystery fortune and surprise. Inspired by those of the Chinese New Year, envelopes will contain eclectic jokes and exclusive prizes, ranging from vouchers for free desserts and appetizers, to cash prizes and gift cards, totaling $1810 as an ode to the year Mexico declared independence in 1810. Calaca Mamas will also be hosting popular SoCal mariachi band, Trio Mariachi Capri, who will perform a live set of traditional music that is representative of the holiday on Friday from 7-9pm.

The family-friendly concept, conceived and founded by restaurateurs and sisters Angela and Mariam El Haj, is excited to give back to the community that supported their dream of opening their first restaurant. The Mexican Independence Day festivities will honor and celebrate the country and culture that inspired Calaca Mamas Cantina, and show appreciation to the community that fuels their success, with special cash prizes and other gifts throughout the meaningful weekend.

Calaca Mamas opened in May of 2022, and offers creative takes on breakfast, lunch and dinner, alongside a full service bar, open seven days a week. The menus feature Mexican favorites, including recipes with a fun and modern twist, like the Taco In A Bag featuring chicken tinga, carne asada, queso chihuahua blend, lettuce, pico de gallo, and crema served in a bag of Frito Chips. The restaurant’s menu is heavily inspired by traditional Mexican recipes and meaningful dishes from their experiences and family members, including the Flan De La Abuela, which originated from a secret recipe straight from their grandmother’s kitchen. The restaurant’s bar program, expertly crafted by mixologist TJ Majeske, displays a boasting list of over 20 original cocktails and margaritas, featuring innovative and vibrant sips like the Cabo Sunset, made with Cutwater Three Sheets Rum, Giffard Passion Fruit Liqueur, Peychaud Bitters, lemon, pineapple leaf, and house-made guava passion fruit foam. Calaca Mamas Cantina also recently announced their 100% alcohol-free mocktail menu, for guests looking for a non-alcohol pairing with their authentic Mexican cuisine.

Calaca Mamas is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The restaurant is adjacent to the Disneyland Resort, and is located at 1550 S. Harbor Blvd. Reservations can be made by calling (714) 215-4226.
